Mixed metal oxide (MMO) anodes, consist of a layer of precious metal oxide intermixed with titanium or tantalum oxide, on a titanium substrate. MMO anodes are also called Dimensionally Stable Anodes(DSA), with high conductivity and corrosion resistance using anodes in electrolysis. They are made by coating a substrate, such as pure titanium plate or expanded mesh, with several kinds of metal oxides.

Electrolysis is a process by which electric current is passed through a substance to effect a chemical change. The process is carried out in an electrolytic cell, an apparatus consisting of positive and negative electrodes held apart and dipped into a solution containing positively and negatively charged ions. Electrolysis is used in industry for the production of many metals and non-metals. Electrolysis is commonly employed for coating one metal with another and the process done using an electric current is called electroplating.
